50TH ANNIVERSARY – MARCH 2018
For our 50th Anniversary Celebration, we opted to expand the ACHIMOTA SCHOOL CADET CORPS PARADE GROUNDS and renovate the ARMOURY BUILDING as our project. This gave the Square its first major renovation since it was established more than half a century ago and offered it a much-deserved facelift obvious to all who saw the before and after appearance.
The highlights of the changes we made are as follows:
The Armoury Building:
Insertion is before Armoury Renovations
• Created extra classroom/conference space to accommodate more students;
• Replaced all louvre frames and blades; doors; and redid the ceiling of original classroom;
• Changed the wooden platform to concrete and extended it;
• Constructed 2 concrete staircases to replace an existing wooden one;
• Built new toilet facilities and also provided a water tank;
• Rewired the entire building;
• Tiled all the floors and staircases;
• Built new closets to house cadet uniforms etc.
The Parade Grounds:
• Expanded the parade grounds from 43 meters x 49 meters to 43 meters x 69 meters;
• Built a new spectator stand;
• Tarred the road bordering the Square (80 meters x 8 meters) giving it a fine finish.
Finally, we supplied the cadets with one hundred brand new complete cadet uniforms and caps as well as one hundred wooden rifles for training.
Our goal in adopting this project for our 50th Anniversary was to inspire greater student zeal for becoming cadets and, by extension, increase discipline among the students.
