Congratulations🎉🎈to the newly-minted Akoras!
On July 23rd, 2023, the Old Achimotans Association (OAA), inducted the final year students of Achimota School into the alumni association. The induction ceremony featured insightful speeches aimed at highlighting the significance of active membership, fostering a strong connection with the association and bond with the School.
Akora Eunice Quarcoopome, the Executive Secretary and member of the OAA talked to the students about the importance of actively engaging with the alumni association. She emphasized that as they embark on their journey beyond School, projecting the name of the School and the association in a positive light should be a priority, ensuring that they uphold its reputation and prevent any actions that could tarnish it.
Akora Gloria Wiredu, Operations Coordinator of the OAA Secretariat, stressed the significance of staying connected with the alumni association. She encouraged the students to register as bona fide members, pay their dues, and actively participate in the association’s events. Acknowledging the importance of technical knowledge, she also advised the students to develop soft skills, which would set them apart from their contemporaries by creating opportunities for themselves, including exploring free online courses.
Drawing from her personal experience, Akora Sharon Mills, a trustee of Achimota School Endowment Trust Fund (ASETF), shared inspiring stories about the benefits that active Akoras enjoy when they proudly display their allegiance to both Achimota School and the Association. She highlighted the concept of “giving” and emphasized that giving doesn’t always have to be monetary. They could for example, serve as enthusiastic cheerleaders and outstanding ambassadors for Achimota School, promoting its values and achievements wherever they go. Furthermore, Akora Sharon enlightened the students about the Achimota School Endowment Trust Fund and its noble goals. She urged all the students to play their part in helping the Association achieve these objectives, as it would greatly impact the School’s development and enrich the experiences of future students.
Overall, the induction ceremony served as a reminder of the lifelong bond that ties Akoras together and the responsibility they share in maintaining the integrity and progress of both Achimota School and the Old Achimotan Association. By actively engaging with the Association and embodying the spirit of giving, the students of the 2023 Year Group can set a strong precedent for future generations to follow and continue the legacy of excellence synonymous with their alma mater.
